SCULPTED PAINTINGS
Sculpted paintings were born out of an international competition invitation that my sculptor, husband, Lucious and I decided to enter. We’d not, until then, actually worked on an art project together. After all, we’d physically built a house together, this should be easy. As a team, we’d design the pieces, then make three dimensional mockups. He would sculpt them out of exterior fir wood, prepare the surface, then turn them over to me to paint. Upon completion, I would turn them back over to him to seal. Our first piece, “Sounds of Perpetual Spring”, garnered us the Hampton Award of Excellence and People’s Choice Purchase Award and is permanently displayed in their outdoor concert district in downtown Hampton, Virginia. We were also awarded the commission to create, “Arts Alive”, the welcome piece displayed in the window of the newly opened Inner City Arts Center in Shreveport, LA. We have created several additional pieces as well.
